In today's world there are too many opportunities to sit on your ass and let the world go by. I have been a "victim" of that most of my life-by choice. However, there are certain things that let you know you're alive. For me, it's mostly summed up in being outside; a full day of working in the yard, or working on a project-- bottom line: sweating and muscle aches. I know that I put in a full day. Not so when I spend the day on the computer or when I used to watch TV for most of a weekend. Those days make me feel muddy-headed and guilty-a day wasted never to be used again.
When I lived in Flagstaff I would sometimes take an occasional "day off" and go hang with my friends at the riding center--early morning coffee and donuts, riding horses all day, grabbing lunch with the boys at the local eatery (our spurs still on), then cleaning up at the end of the day, getting in my truck, and driving home--the sun setting over the peaks... (I learned how to two-step in that barn).
In Alaska it was fishing or golf... most everything involved a long drive. Golf, for example, didn't end with the four and a half hours of the actual game... there was drinking, dinner, and all the extras that go along with it. Remember, golf in Alaska is in the summer, and the summer days are LONG.
The point is... going to bed after a day of physical activity is a satisfying feeling!
(now-if my job meant hard labor everyday, there might be a different point here...)
