Okay...
So most of my posts have a theme; there is some thought-out, pre-planned position. This time I am writing from immediate gut emotion.
Recently, a person of my acquaintance told me something about her son. He is a Deputy sheriff for a county in AZ. He was an MP in the Army National guard, and served for two years in Iraq. He was involved in a hit and run accident on a local Indian Reservation. The driver was a native American who happened to be drunk--it was head-on.
The son's back was broken. "Luckily" it broke below the area of nerves in the spine that--if broken--could have caused paralysis.
The driver left the scene on foot, (details omitted here) but was arrested later. One judge ruled he was to be held without bond... another one let him go...
That's not the part I'm mad about.
Son has recently received notice from the United States Army that he was overpaid $1500, and he is required to pay it back. Steps to garner his wages have been put into effect.
The insurance money did not replace his totaled car; a car he was dreaming of getting while in Iraq. He had to find new transportation.
WHAT THE FUCK?!
If my company overpaid me in the tune of $1500, TOO BAD. Is it my responsibility to make sure that I am getting paid the correct amount (especially if I am sleeping in the desert and getting shot at?)
What in the hell is going on here? Why in the hell would the government go looking for $1500 from a soldier? It's not like he stole it! He and his family HAD TO PAY MORE THAN THAT to properly equip him with armor and supplies to survive. If anything, HE SHOULD SEND A BILL to the Army!
WAKE UP AMERICA, FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!
The point is this: Since WWII, our government has become a cluster fuck
