The World Revolves Around Me

DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?

I don't get people. Rich or poor, dumb or smart, they act like the world revolves around them. Rules? Who needs rules? Rules are for other people!

This past weekend I was working at my volunteer job as an Arizona Ranger. We had duty at the Cave Creek Wild West Days.

The duty was on the property of TC Thorstenson's and The Buffalo Express.
We were to secure the beer garden and vendor's area. The rules were simple... NO WEAPONS, NO DOGS (except service animals), NO BEER PAST THE GATE, NO ALCOHOL FROM THE OUTSIDE... pretty simple.

The events were the Mounted Shooters World competition, Wild West Show, and Cave Creek's 20th Anniversary.

The mounted shooters were FANTASTIC as were the vendors! They all complied and left their weapons in their trucks, but when a retired deputy sheriff came to the gate he thought that he had more rights than a regular citizen. He strode past the ranger at the gate. Then he met me.
I stopped him in the center of the pavilion and told him there were no weapons allowed. He identified himself as a deputy sheriff. I asked him for ID, and he told me it was in his truck and he wanted me to come with him to show me. I declined and told him that he needed to leave to get it. He asked where my liscence was, and I informed him that I was hired by the owner to be here (also, check the AZ Constitution)...

"There's no place in this county I can't carry my guns..."
Guess what? Yes there is... not here...

So that's what got under my craw... What is it with people throwing their weight around? I would think that he would respect us for upholding our responsibilities. I'm sure he to was in situations where someone said--in so many words--do you know who I am? Hey, if you ain't in uniform and supposed to be there, then you ain't going to be there... PERIOD.

Now, let's get to the dog women. All the dog owners whose pets were over 30 pounds were very accomidating when we informed them that their animals were not permitted within the beer garden... The owners of "bait-dogs" (dogs in purses) were of a different ilk. They believe that their "babies" are not dogs, and they were the rudest of all the folks I had to curtail.

I had a discussion with a friend of mine last week about "those whose shit does not smell." An example is someone who shows up without an appointment and says, "I called and they said it would be okay to come in at this time." Of course, they have no name for the "they" other than, "some girl on the phone". So, with this statement followed by the proper attitude they get in to the appointment neccessary activity.

The point is this: The most honest people are those who break their backs for a living... and....
this was F'ing fun!!

Thanks!

We really enjoyed our time there. Sorry for the "negative" vibe of the post, but I had to vent a bit... hope you understand! After two days of certain types of folks (not many mind you!) challenging the rules, I find it healthy to just have a cup of coffee and write.
