We had a garage sale today.
I HATE GARAGE SALES!So... we put an ad in the paper. It stated a few of the larger items we wanted to sell as well as the start time and the quote... No Early Birds...
So... the day before, some guy showed up. As we were setting up, some non-English speaking guy drove up... apparently, some people don't understand the meaning of No Early Birds or, my wife saying... "we aren't quite ready yet."
They say you can get a bargain... it's more like stealing (figuratively and literally). Some items just disappeared, while others walked off far under their fair market value... while some found their way to Goodwill because I wouldn't budge... I mean, please... a 60GB HP computer with zip drive, CD writer, 15" monitor, keyboard, speakers, Pentium IV... all it needed was the processor fan to be properly installed... AND I WAS ASKING $10!
...and don't get me started with the old "country boy" (self-proclaimed) who carried his money in a Crown Royal bag. He tried to buy our big TV out from under an older couple who was calling a friend of theirs to see if they would be interested. Now, from my many years of retail experience, first come-first serve is the right way to go. Just because you make the first offer, makes no difference to me... so, when I said these folks were here first, he took his money back and made some comment about "being here for a sale..." GOOD RIDDANCE I say... I don't need that shit... and he wanted to pick up the set the next day or Monday....
DON'T AGREE TO WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO COME PICK UP AN ITEM!As I write this, my wife and I are waiting for a guy to come by and pick up a bigger item... He gave us 1/2 at 11am... it's 530pm now... so................
The point is this: There are a lot of people out there that have no conscience and will ask for the world... as long as it's only a dollar.
